The Cheruvathur panchayat, a small village about five and a half kilometres away from Nileshwaram has managed to find a spot on the must-visit list of places in Kasaragod. An open book on the traditional life in Kerala villages, the famous attraction in this village is the Veeramala Hills. Easy to climb, one can find the ruins of a Dutch fort said to be built in the 18th century, at the top. The place is suitable for a short drive and a picnic with family. The picnic spot atop the hills provides a beautiful view of the Kariangode river and its surrounding places. Don't forget to pack snacks and water.
